Let Freedom Ring

Summer calls us to get up and go out, be out early to see the sunrise or stay up past twilight to see the sunset, or just play longer in summer’s warmth.  It invites us off the sofa, away from electronics to have experiences that make us feel alive.  It calls us to grill, try new foods, explore, have the sun and breezes in our hair, toss out the alarm clock and escape!

What does summer freedom look like to you?  Do you have a bucket list of things to accomplish?  Is it about no plans whatsoever? Are you a traveler?  Do you take a stay-cation?  Do you take time to just breathe?  Do you cut loose of electronics?  Do you read, have friends over, take it slower?

Reminiscing About the “Good Ole Days”

My husband and I got a little nostalgic this week as we discussed that it was already time for kids to head “Back to School.”  We were raised in different areas of the country, but when we were kids we didn’t go back to school until after Labor Day.  We both remember long summer days to run, play, go on vacation, and get bored.  You didn’t tell Mom or Dad you were bored because then they would find a chore for you to do.  I was a avid reader so I spent many days reading a book or absorbing teen magazines.  Mom and I got hooked on soap operas in the afternoon one summer but realized that we needed to give those up. My most favorite part of the winter season is of course Christmas.  We can easily get caught up in lists and end of year to dos – but the part I’m most drawn to and strive to focus on is what I hold most dear: family.  I truly have to force myself to slow down and experience the “wonder of it all”...

My Favorite Time of Year

IMG_0130

No doubt.  Fall is my absolutely favorite time of year.  The cooler, crisper air, the tree color changes, a blue October sky, the lingering shadows, richer foods and, of course, football (more college ball than pro for me).

It is my favorite time to drive around and see all the colors and marvel that God can make something beautiful out of something that is dying.  All of mid-Missouri is just beautiful for several weeks and it is our busiest season of all.  We are gearing up as our calendar is filling up for September and October.  There are so many wonderful festivals and events in our area.

Chamois will be host several events as our annual Chamois Day Festival will be September 17th with vendors, games, tours and food and reunions...
